Overseas India Awards to 27 persons:
- The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest civilian award for Indians living abroad, to 27 awardees.
- The International Day of Non-Resident Indians is celebrated on January 9.
- The conference was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- As many as 27 NRIs from Japan, Fiji, Australia and Laos were honoured with the award.
- The President of Trinidad and Tobago, Christine Carla Gangu, was awarded in the category of Public Affairs.
- The Vice President is the Chairman of the Committee and the External Affairs Minister is the Vice-Chairman of the Committee.

- The Henley Passport Index ranks the world’s most powerful passports.
- The value of a passport is determined by how many countries a citizen can visit without a visa.
- The UK-based Henley Passport Index has released a list of the world’s passport values for 2025.
- The first place is occupied by the passport of the Southeast Asian country Singapore.
- Japan is in second place.
- India’s passport, which was ranked 80th last year, has now slipped to 85th position.
- Afghanistan is at the bottom of the list.
International Balloon Festival:
- Tourism Minister Panamarathupatti Rajendran inaugurated the event.
- The 10th International Balloon Festival has started in Mamallapuram with the participation of participants from 8 countries.
- The balloon festival, which is jointly organised by the tourism department and a private company, will be held for three days from 9th to 12th.
- The International Balloon Festival is being organized by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department in the month of January.
- The Balloon Festival is held at three places in Tamil Nadu – Madurai, Pollachi and Thiruvidanthai.
- Air Balloon Pilots from 8 countries including France, Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the Balloon Festival and flew balloons in different shapes and unique colors.
11th January: Lal Bahadur Shastri’s death anniversary
- Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of independent India.
- He popularized the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ and actively participated in India’s freedom struggle.
- “He died on 11 January 1966 and was also known as the” “Hero of Peace” “worldwide.”
January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
- National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is observed on 11th January to raise awareness about human trafficking.
- The day aims to raise awareness about the plight of human trafficking victims and to promote and protect their rights.

- The Indian Council of Medical Research has selected the Bangalore Medical College and Research Centre to set up an Epidemiology Research and Diagnostics Laboratory, which will be the first Epidemiology Research Centre in South India.
