Switzerland revokes India’s trade status

  • “Switzerland has said that the implementation of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) agreement will not be delayed due to the revocation of India’s” “Most Favoured Nation” “status at the WTO.”
  • The Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) between India and Switzerland was signed in 1994 and amended in 2010.
  • Last year, the Supreme Court ruled in a case involving Nestle that the deal could not be automatically enforced without an official notification under the Income Tax Act.
  • As a result, Swiss companies, including Nestle, have to pay higher taxes in India for the share of their profits to the shareholders of those companies.
  • “Unhappy with this, Switzerland recently removed the” “most favoured nation” “status for India from the DTAA agreement.”

Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission. Ramasubramanian

  • Former Supreme Court judge V.S. Ramasubramanian.
  • Former Supreme Court judge Arun Kumar Mishra’s tenure as the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission ended on June 1.
  • For the first time, a person from Tamil Nadu has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission.

The National Human Rights Commission:

  • The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) was established on October 12, 1993.
  • It is customary for a retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to be appointed as the chairman of this body.
  • The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a statutory body constituted to promote and protect human rights for the citizens of India.
  • Human rights include the rights relating to life, liberty, equality and dignity of every individual.
  • The NHRC consists of a chairperson and five members.
  • Chief Justice of India or a judge of the Supreme Court.
  • A member who is or has been a Judge of the Supreme Court of India and a member who is or has been a Chief Justice of a High Court.
  • Three members, at least one of whom shall be a woman, shall be appointed from amongst persons having knowledge or practical experience in matters relating to human rights.
  • A sitting judge of the Supreme Court or a sitting Chief Justice of any High Court can be appointed only after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
  • December 24th is National Consumer Rights Day

Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on 24th December every year.

  • Ralph Rader is recognized as the father of the consumer movement for his pivotal role in advocating consumer rights.
  • The rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 are derived from the rights enshrined in Articles 14 to 19 of the Constitution of India.
  • World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on March 15.
  • Consumers have the following rights:
  • Consumers have six rights: the right to protection, the right to information, the right to choose, the right to be heard, the right to redress, and the right to consumer education.

  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana (PMUY), the central government provides a maximum of Rs 82,000 to college students.
