Central Drugs Quality Control Organization (CDSCO):

  • The Central Drugs Quality Control Organization (CDSCO) is India’s national regulatory body for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
  • It performs a similar function to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States or the European Medicines Agency of the European Union.
  • The Indian government has announced plans to bring all medical devices, including implants and contraceptives, under review by the Central Drugs and Quality Control Organization (CDSCO).
  • Central Drug Quality Control Organization is headquartered in New Delhi.
  • Drugs Controller General of India– Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi.

Odisha: ‘Tsunami Ready’ declared for 24 villages

  • 24 coastal villages in the state of Odisha have been accorded ‘Tsunami Ready’ recognition by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Maritime Commission.
  • India’s National Tsunami Preparedness Accreditation Board has nominated 26 coastal villages in the state for this recognition by UNESCO.
  • The accreditation was initiated to train people to deal with tsunami impacts and improve preparedness.
  • Its 2nd Global Tsunami Symposium was held in Indonesia.
  • Noliasahi in Jagatsinghpur district and Venkatraipur in Ganjam district were also given this recognition in 2020.

Ramnath Goenka Sahitya Samman Award:

  • The Founder Ramnath Goenka Sahitya Samman Awards were presented in New Delhi on behalf of The New Indian Group.
  • In the non-fiction category, the award was given to author Neerja Chowdhury for her book ‘How Prime Ministers Decide’.
  • In the fiction category, the award was given to Aishwarya Jha, author of ‘The Scent of Fallen Stars’.
  • The Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature was given to author Ruskin Bond.

November 16: International Day for Tolerance

  • International Day of Tolerance is observed on November 16 to raise awareness of the importance of tolerance by promoting mutual understanding between cultures and peoples.

  • Every year on 16th November, National Press Day is observed in honor of Press Council of India (PCI).
  • The day celebrates the existence of a free and responsible press in the nation.
