Rare carnelian intaglio of humped bull found in Vembakottai

  • The 3rd phase of excavation work is going on in Mettukkadu area on the north bank of Vijayakarisalkulam near Vembakottai, Virudhunagar district.
  • Excavations near Vembakkottai found flint seal, lamp, stone ball and stone silhouette.
  • In the Vembakottai excavations, Rare carnelian intaglio of humped bull was found in Sutupavala Kalmani.
  • In the Vembakkottai excavations, a hollow-carved bull has been found in Suthupavala Kalmani, also known as carnelian.
  • Gemstones that can be used to make sapphire beads are available only in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Chief Minister’s Research Incentive Scheme:
