African swine fever in Kerala:
- African swine fever, a deadly disease that spreads among pigs, has spread in Kerala’s Thrissur district.
- Affecting both farm-raised and wild pigs, the disease can easily spread from one infected pig to another.
- African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a large, double-stranded DNA virus in the Asfarviridae family.
- It is the causative agent of African swine fever (ASF), a virus that causes hemorrhagic fever with a high mortality rate in domestic pigs.
- African swine fever poses no risk to public health and cannot be transmitted from pigs to humans.
- Except for African wild boars, pigs of all ages are susceptible to severe strains of African swine fever.
- African swine fever (ASF) is a fatal hemorrhagic disease with a high mortality rate.
President awards 6 CRPF personnel, including 4 posthumously, for gallantry:
- Awards are given to the soldiers who have shown bravery and served effectively in the defence forces of the country – army, paramilitary and police.
- A total of 37 players have been announced with ‘Kirti Chakra’ award for 10 players and ‘Shaurya Chakra’ award for 27 players for this year.
- Dilip Kumar Das, Raj Kumar Yadav, Bablu Rabba and Shambhu Roy were awarded Kirti Chakra.
9th ICC T20 World Cup:
- The 9th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup was held in the West Indies and the United States from June 1 to 29.
- India defeated South Africa to win the Champions Trophy for the 2nd time.
- While the ICC has given a prize money of Rs 21 crore to the champion Indian team, the BCCI has announced a prize of Rs 125 crore.
- Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that Rs 11 crore will be given to the Indian cricket team that won the T20 World Cup after the BCCI.
Nayak period copper coins from Vembakottai excavations:
- The 3rd phase of excavation work started on the 18th of last month in Mettukadu area on the north bank of Vaipat in Vijayakarisalkulam near Vembakkottai.
- Among them, glass beads, stone beads, ancient bricks, a headdress with a headdress, a flint cone-shaped decorated Agal lamp, and a stone pendant attached to a neck ornament were found.
- Nayak period copper coins were found during the excavation on Friday.
- These coins were in circulation during the reign of Madurai Nayaka king Veerappa nayakar who died in the 16th century AD.
- On the obverse side of these coins Lord Shiva is engraved in a seated position and on the reverse side the Telugu script ‘Sree veeras’ is engraved.
- Only the image of Lord Shiva is found in these copper coins.
World Bank Funding: Tamil Nadu Health
- In order to improve the quality of health in Tamil Nadu, with the help of the World Bank, the health rehabilitation program has been implemented since 2019.
- Under this scheme, various health works are being undertaken at a cost of Rs 2,854.74 crore.
- Of this, the World Bank has contributed Rs 1,998.32 crore and the state government has contributed Rs 856.42 crore.
- From 2019 till now, Rs 1,621.86 crore has been received from the World Bank and it has been spent in various categories like infectious disease, accident treatment, maternity treatment, child welfare program.
- The Tamil Nadu government is going to request the World Bank for a financial assistance of Rs.3,000 crore for the new medical infrastructure as this project ends this year.
