Human Rights and Freedom of Expression: India and the European Union
The 11th India-EU Human Rights Dialogue was held in New Delhi.
India and the EU recognized the importance of strengthening national and international human rights mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights.
Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation in multilateral bodies such as the UN General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Commission.
It committed to close cooperation and close interaction between the Permanent Missions of India to the United Nations and the European Union for joint activities in this regard.
Genome data of 10,000 Indians: ‘Genome’ project
- PM Modi released the detailed data of the genetic variants of 10 thousand Indians for the study.
- According to the ‘Genome’ project, which will create a map of the genetic variations of the country, the genetic variants of 10 thousand healthy Indians were collected.
- These data can be used to diagnose new diseases and treat existing ones.
- These data will help in finding out the genetic differences of Indians.
- This is a major milestone in the field of biotechnology.
- More than 20 leading research institutions have played an important role in the storage of this data.
- It will help take gene therapies to the next level and detect infections and new diseases.
Plan for integration of SPADEX satellites:
- ISRO has said that the integration of the Spadex twin spacecraft will begin.
- ISRO’s Spadex mission is a pilot project to establish an Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) station in outer space by 2035.
- The two satellites, SPADEX A and SPADEX B, were launched onboard PSLV C-60 from the Sriharikota launch pad in Andhra Pradesh.
- Currently, the two satellites are orbiting at the same distance.
‘PM Surya ghar ‘scheme:
- The Surya ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Modi on 15 February 2024.
- The objective of the scheme is to provide subsidy for installation of solar panels on rooftops.
- The subsidy will cover 40% of the cost of solar lights in the project.
PM KUSHUM Scheme:
- Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM).
