‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill: Introduced in Lok Sabha

  • The ‘One Nation, One Election Bill’ is being introduced in the Lok Sabha.
  • The central government is planning to implement the system of holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha, state and union territory assemblies.
  • For this, the central government is going to introduce the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the Lok Sabha.
  • It is noteworthy that according to Section 2 Clause 5 of the said bill, if the Election Commission is of the opinion that the election to any assembly cannot be held along with the Lok Sabha election, the Election Commission may recommend to the President to issue an order that the election to that assembly be held on an alternative date.

Moldova Embassy opens in New Delhi:

  • The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova, an Eastern European country to India, was opened in New Delhi.
  • The newly built Indian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova was jointly inaugurated by the Ministers of both countries in New Delhi.
  • The Republic of Moldova assisted India in Operation Ganga to rescue Indian students stranded there during the Russian war with Ukraine.
  • A Declaration of Association on Migration and Mobility between the two countries was signed.
  • An Indian Embassy in Moldova is to be opened soon.

Tamil Nadu Highways Authority Bill:

  • Governor R.N. Ravi has given his assent to the State Highways Authority Bill, which was introduced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly last February.
  • The Bill to establish the State Highways Authority was introduced on February 21.
  • Under this Bill, the Tamil Nadu State Highways Authority can prepare immediate and long-term plans for the construction, development, maintenance and upgradation of highways.
  • The task of this commission is to develop models for bringing in international funding. It has been reported that a chairman, 3 full-time and 3 part-time members will be appointed to the commission.

  1. The Music Academy has been awarding the Sangita Kalanidhi Award in the name of famous Carnatic singer M. S. Subbulakshmi since 2005.
  2. The Music Academy has ordered that the Sangita Kalanithi Award for the year 2024 in the name of M. S. Subbulakshmi should not be given to singer D. M. Krishna.
  3. NASA has said that a large asteroid is approaching Earth on December 16 and that it does not pose a threat to the Earth.
  4. It has been reported that the asteroid 2024 XY5 will pass very close to Earth.
  5. The Indian Embassy has reported that Indians working there have died after a gas attack at a hotel in the mountainous region of Gudauri in the Eastern European country of Georgia.
  6. The ICC has banned Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan from bowling in international cricket matches.
