PM-SHRI Scheme:
- The Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chowdhury has said that the Central Government is pressuring the Tamil Nadu government to sign the PM-Shri Scheme MoU without amendments.
- The Tamil Nadu government has not yet accepted the PM-SHRI Scheme.
- The Tamil Nadu government, which had announced on March 15 that it would adopt the scheme before the 2024-25 academic year, sent the MoU with revised clauses, completely removing the implementation lines of the National Education Policy.
- The Centrally Funded Scheme of PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) was approved by the Cabinet on 7 September 2022.
- PM SHRI School is a Centrally Funded Scheme by the Government of India.
- The initiative aims to improve 14500 PM SHRI schools managed by the Central Government/State/UT Government/Local Bodies.
Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana:
- So far, 2.02 lakh bank accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana and loans worth Rs 1,751 crore have been disbursed.
- Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana was launched on 17 September 2023 to provide end-to-end support to artisans and craftsmen who work with their hands and tools.
- It was launched with an estimated cost of Rs 13,000 crore with an aim to support traditional artisans and craft workers.
- Under this scheme, which covers 18 types of professions such as carpenter, blacksmith, goldsmith, sculptor, boat builder, barber, shoemaker, etc., collateral-free loan assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh in the first instalment and up to Rs 2 lakh in the second instalment is provided.
‘One Nation; ‘One Subscription’ Scheme:
- The central government is introducing ‘One Nation; One Subscription’ scheme from January 1, which will benefit 1.8 crore students studying in government-aided higher education institutions across the country, providing them access to all international research journals under a single subscription.
- In the first phase of the One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) scheme, students will have access to over 13,400 international research journals covering science, technology, engineering, medicine, mathematics, management, social sciences, etc.
- Through this, 6,380 higher education and research institutions in the country will have access to the best research journals published by 30 renowned international publishers including ‘Elsevier, ‘Spring Nature,’ and ‘Wiley.
- In the second phase of the scheme, the government plans to extend this initiative to private educational institutions under public-private partnership.
- In the third phase, this facility will also be made available in public libraries.
