Electronic surveillance project on Pakistan, Bangladesh borders: BSF

  • The Border Security Force has said that it has launched a project to electronically monitor 600 gaps on the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders where barriers cannot be erected.
  • The India-Pakistan international border is 2,289 km long and runs through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu.
  • The BSF is engaged in security operations in these border areas.
  • The BSF troops have been ordered to prevent illegal infiltration from Pakistan into India through these border areas.
  • Due to reasons such as rivers and other geographical challenges, it has not been possible to erect barriers along the India-Bangladesh and India-Pakistan international borders for a distance of 484 km.
  • Due to this, the BSF has launched a project to electronically monitor 600 gaps there.

PM-KISAN Scheme:

  • 58 crore farmers were given Rs 20.657 crore under the 18th tranche of the PM-KISAN scheme.
  • PM-KISAN is a 100% subsidised central government scheme of the Government of India.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM-KISAN scheme on 24 February 2019 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The scheme was introduced to boost the income of small and marginal farmers.
  • Under this scheme, all small and marginal farmers will be given income support of Rs 6,000 per year in three instalments.
  • It will be paid directly into their bank accounts.
  • The scheme uses digital infrastructure to ensure that the benefits reach all farmers without intermediaries.
  • Since its inception, the central government has disbursed over Rs 3.46 lakh crore.

Fastest-growing glacier discovered in Uttarakhand:

  • Scientists have discovered a 10-kilometer-wide, fastest-growing glacier in the Niti Valley region of Uttarakhand.
  • This glacier is located in the northern border of the mountainous region of Uttarakhand, almost on the India-Tibet border.
  • It is located in an area of ​​48 square kilometers near the Randolph and Regna glaciers.
  • This is said to be due to hydrological imbalance and the glacier is growing rapidly as the water content of the water decreases and they gradually turn into ice sheets.
