BSF Raising Day:
- The day of the raising of the Border Security Force, one of the central armed police forces, was celebrated.
- The Border Security Force is one of the central police forces of the Government of India that guards the international border of India.
- Considered a branch of the Indian paramilitary forces, this force was raised on 1 December 1965.
- The main task of this force, which operates under the Union Home Ministry, is to prevent border infiltration and protect the border.
- K F Rustamji took charge as its first Director General.
- Till 1965, the India-Pakistan border was guarded by the respective state armed forces.
- Promotes a sense of security among the people living in the border areas.
- Prevents cross-border crimes, infiltration, etc.
- Prevents smuggling and any other illegal activities.
- In recent times, it has been used for internal security and to prevent internal insurgency.
AIDS deaths in India down by 79%:
- “As compared to 2010, AIDS deaths in India have come down by 79%; HIV infections have come down by 44%,” said Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda.
- India is fully committed to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal of ending AIDS by 2030.
- India is taking a global approach to testing and treating with the help of the AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017.
- The National AIDS Control Organization and the State AIDS Control Organizations are using the ‘95-95-95’ strategy.
- That is, 95% of patients should know that they are HIV-infected, 95% of them should be on treatment and 95% should be on antiretroviral therapy to reduce the impact of the virus.
Ennum Ezhuthum Mission:
- The Ennum Ezhuthum Mission was launched in Tamil Nadu to improve the quality of teaching and learning in government schools in classes 1, 2 and 3.
- The objective of this project is to ensure that all students in the state achieve basic literacy and numeracy skills by 2025.
- Accordingly, an evaluation of the activities of this project is to be carried out.
- For this, 135 schools each in each district (excluding Chennai 136 schools, Nilgiris 100 schools) for a total of 5,096 schools have been selected.
December 2: National Pollution Control Day
- National Pollution Control Day is celebrated on December 2 to create awareness about pollution and its harmful effects.
