The UN is an old institution:
- India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who participated in the Kautilya Economic Conclave held in Delhi, said that the UN is like an old organization that cannot act to find solutions to contemporary problems.
- The United Nations is a political international organization that acts as a central body for maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, achieving international cooperation and coordinating the activities of member states.
- The United Nations officially began on October 24, 1945, four months after the San Francisco Conference, and that day is celebrated as UN Day.
- It is recognized as the largest international organization in the world.
- The headquarters of the UN is in New York City.
- After World War II, the UN was established with the aim of preventing future world wars.
- India’s current representative to the UN is TS Tirumurti.
International Solar Alliance (ISA):
- The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an alliance of more than 120 signatory countries.
- Most of them are Sunlight countries, which lie in whole or in part between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
- The alliance’s primary objective is to work towards efficient consumption of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
- ISA is headquartered in Haryana, India.
Indo-Middle East-European Economic Corridor:
- The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is an economic corridor connecting Asia and Europe through the Middle East and the Mediterranean.
- India first proposed this scheme in 2023.
- At the G-20 conference held in New Delhi, the plan for this 6,000 km long economic corridor connecting India, Middle East and European countries by sea, rail and road was announced.
- India, USA, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, European Union, Germany, France and Italy have signed MoU for this project.
