Important Facts:

  1. In 2004, Tamil was first given the status of ‘Semmozhi’.
  2. Sanskrit (2005), Telugu (2008), Kannada (2008), Malayalam (2013) and Odia (2014) have been granted ‘classical’ status.
  3. Currently, the 5 languages ​​to be included in the classical list are Maharashtra (Marathi), Bihar-Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh (Pali and Prakrit), West Bengal (Bengali) and Assam (Assamese).
