Additional water release in Cauvery to Tamil Nadu:

  • In the Cauvery, the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) meeting was informed that Tamil Nadu has been given more than what it should have released.
  • The 32nd meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Authority was held in Delhi.
  • In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6 A of the Inter-State Water Resources Act, 1956, the Central Government constituted the Cauvery Water Management Commission on June 1, 2018 for the Cauvery Water Management Plan.
  • The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CMA) has been set up to solve the problems related to the sharing of Cauvery water between the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.
  • The Cauvery River Commission consists of a Chairman, eight members and a Secretary.
  • Out of these eight members two are full time members.

Minimum Support Price (MSP):

  • Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the minimum price set by the government for certain agricultural commodities at which the commodity is purchased directly from farmers if the external market prices are below cost.
  • MSP is a form of government intervention to insure farmers against sharp falls in commodity prices and prevent losses.
  • Government of India fixes MSP twice a year for 24 commodities.
  • The government does this to protect farmers from falling prices in a year of bumper production.
  • When the market price falls below the notified MSP, the government will purchase the entire quantity from farmers at the MSP price.
  • The Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) determines the minimum support price.
  • The government provides minimum support price for a total of 22 crops.

Testing of Ballistic Missiles:

  • It tested a second-stage ballistic missile capable of destroying a target at a distance of 5,000 km.
  • A secondary missile that intercepts and destroys a target within the Earth’s atmosphere has been launched and tested.
  • Launched from the Integrated Test Center at Chandipur, Odisha, the missile was successful in all aspects.
  • This test is 5,000 km. It highlighted the indigenous capability to intercept ballistic missiles capable of destroying long-range targets.

‘Tamil Puthalvan’ Scheme: Government of Tamil Nadu

  • The state government will implement the ‘Tamil Puthalvan’ scheme, which will provide monthly assistance of Rs.1000
  • The ‘Tamil Puthalvan’ scheme, which provides a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to government school students going for higher education, is set to come into effect from August.

‘Vidiyal Project:

  • When M.K.Stalin took charge as the Chief Minister, the first scheme he implemented was to implement the free-of-charge travel in government buses to womens-Vidiyal Payanam.
  • Allotment of 10 percent plots for women in industrial plots, making women entrepreneurs and evolving into self-help groups across Tamil Nadu today has brought about an economic revolution among rural women and has seen success.
  • Canada has implemented the first breakfast program in its country’s schools.
  • During the recent British parliamentary election, the three programs namely breakfast program, I am the first, and new woman were echoed in the results report of the Labour Party and the party won.

Discovery of Unearthed ornamental Beads in Porpanaikot Excavation:

  • In the first phase of excavation conducted last year by the Tamil Nadu Department of Archeology at Porpanaikottai in Pudukottai district, a brick floor like a sewage drain and a circular brick construction were found.
  • More than 500 artefacts were also found, including gold nose tools and bone-tipped tools.
  • Following this, on June 18, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin started it.
  • In the second phase of excavation, 2 coral beads and an agate bead were found today.

Discovery of Anjanakol in Marungur Excavations:

  • Antiquities such as copper coins of the Rajarajan era, flint beads, green glass beads, and relief-type potsherds were collected in the excavation at Marungur in Cuddalore district.
  • Anjanakol made of copper used for applying eye wax has been found.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s First Joint Exercise in China:

  • Defence forces of all the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), including India, conducted joint counter-terrorism exercise in China for the first time.
  • This anti-terrorist exercise called Interaction-2024 was conducted in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of Northwest China.
  • With terrorist threats spreading across the globe, all member states, including India, participated for the first time in this live exercise conducted to enhance member states’ capabilities and interoperability in joint counter-terrorism operations.
  • Belarus became the 10th member state of the SEC, which includes China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

  • Louise Joy Brown became the first child conceived through IVF or in vitro fertilization, hence 25 July 1978, which is celebrated every year as World Embryologist Day.
